A 25-year-old man has been charged by police following two alleged armed robberies that occurred within weeks of each other on the same street in Raymond Terrace, north of Newcastle.
First Robbery: Employee Assaulted with Metal Pole
Port Stephens police first received reports of a serious incident on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Officers were told that around 6:40pm, two men entered a business on William Street.
The pair allegedly threatened an employee and demanded cash. During the incident, a 23-year-old male employee was reportedly assaulted with a metal pole. The offenders then fled the scene with a quantity of cigarettes and cash.
Police confirmed the employee did not sustain serious injuries. A crime scene was established and an investigation was launched.
Second Robbery and Swift Arrest
Then, at about 8am on Thursday, January 15, 2026, police were called back to a business on William Street, Raymond Terrace, following reports of another alleged armed robbery.
In this incident, police were told two men entered a store, stole packets of cigarettes and an amount of cash, before leaving in a black sedan. Another crime scene was established as inquiries continued.
Following investigations, police arrested a 25-year-old man on Campbell Drive, Raymond Terrace, at about 3pm that same day, January 15.
Charges Laid and Bail Refused
The man was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was formally charged. The charges included:
- Robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon.
- Robbery in company.
The accused was refused bail and was scheduled to appear at Bail Division Court 2 on Friday, January 16. Police have stated that inquiries into both incidents are ongoing.
