A dramatic police pursuit through the picturesque vineyards of the Hunter Valley ended with the arrest of a young man on Wednesday, after officers deployed road spikes and called in the dog squad.
Chase through wine country
The incident began around 11:30am on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, when police attempted to stop a Toyota LandCruiser on Majors Lane at Sawyers Gully. According to authorities, the driver allegedly failed to comply, sparking a chase through the renowned wine region.
Officers quickly attempted to disable the vehicle using road spikes. However, the driver managed to continue, leading police on a route along Lovedale Road, Wine Country Drive, and Lomas Lane.
Foot pursuit and arrest
Investigators allege the driver then headed towards Cessnock, eventually abandoning the vehicle near Alkira Avenue and fleeing into nearby bushland. This prompted a significant police response to locate the suspect.
A police dog squad was deployed to search the area. The coordinated operation proved successful, with officers arresting a 23-year-old man a short time later.

Following his arrest, the man was taken to Cessnock Hospital to undergo a mandatory drug analysis. Police confirmed he was subsequently transferred to Cessnock Police Station to assist with their inquiries.
