Three teenagers from the Hunter region are confronting a combined tally of more than twenty criminal charges, linked to a series of alleged overnight break-ins and a stolen vehicle found abandoned.
Alleged Overnight Crime Spree in Tarro
New South Wales Police state that the youths, aged 15 and 16, were arrested on Lawson Avenue in Beresfield on Monday. The arrests followed an investigation into incidents at a residential complex on Quarter Sessions Road in Tarro.
Officers allege that between the night of Saturday, November 29, and the early hours of Sunday, November 30, the trio broke into two separate units within the same complex. From the first apartment, a wallet and an electronic device were reportedly stolen.
Police further claim the boys then entered a second unit, where they allegedly took a handbag and the keys to a Suzuki sedan.
Stolen Vehicle Located Abandoned
The allegedly stolen Suzuki was later found abandoned at Woodberry at approximately 5:30 am on Sunday morning. Following their arrest, all three teenagers were taken to Maitland Police Station for questioning.
Initially, police refused bail for each of the youths, requiring them to face a children's court on Tuesday. However, bail applications for the two 15-year-olds were subsequently successful, with conditions set for their next court appearances in the coming weeks.
String of Serious Charges Laid
The 16-year-old, identified as the eldest of the group, faces two counts of aggravated break-and-enter and committing a serious indictable offence, plus a charge related to being a passenger in the allegedly stolen car. He was formally refused bail and is scheduled to face court again in January.
One of the 15-year-olds, accused of driving the stolen Suzuki, faces similar break-and-enter charges with an additional count of shoplifting. He was refused bail and will next appear in court on December 9.
The third teenager faces the most extensive list of allegations. He has been hit with a total of 19 charges. These relate not only to the alleged Tarro break-ins but also to a series of other alleged offences including multiple breaches of bail, charges connected to an alleged police pursuit, three counts of larceny, and further theft and property damage charges. He was granted conditional bail and is due in court on December 11.
The cases continue as the matters progress through the children's court system.
