A 22-year-old woman is facing serious domestic violence charges following an alleged knife assault in the Newcastle suburb of Carrington on Friday morning, which prompted a major emergency services response.
Altercation Leads to Stabbing
Police and paramedics were called to a venue on Young Street just before 11am on January 17, 2026, after reports a man had been injured during a dispute. The altercation is believed to have started in an upstairs accommodation area.
Upon arrival, emergency services found a 23-year-old man with a cut to his arm. Police allege the wound was inflicted with a knife by a woman known to the victim. The injury was consistent with a knife attack.
Victim Hospitalised, Alleged Attacker in Custody
Paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was transported to John Hunter Hospital. Authorities confirmed he was in a stable condition with injuries deemed non-life-threatening.
The woman was arrested at the scene and taken to Newcastle Police Station for questioning. She was subsequently charged with multiple domestic violence-related offences.
Serious Charges Laid
The accused woman was formally charged with causing grievous bodily harm, stalking or intimidation with intent to cause fear or physical harm, and common assault.
Police refused her bail, and she was scheduled to face a Bail Court on Saturday, January 18, 2026.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about domestic violence in the community and the severe consequences of such alleged actions.
