Brewvino Bar, a popular bar and restaurant located on the Mandurah boardwalk, is set to undergo a significant expansion by summer, thanks to funding from the State Government's regional economic development grants program. The venue has been awarded $75,000 to create a new sky garden and alfresco area, as part of a broader initiative that saw 10 Peel-based projects share in $1.104 million.
Expansion Details
The project will involve expanding the second-floor space by 72 square metres, incorporating a mobile bar, green space, and a pitched roof with adjustable glass panels. This design will allow for alfresco dining and provide year-round views of the Mandurah estuary.
Owners' Perspective
Owners Andrew and Liz Coughlan expressed their excitement about the expansion, noting the current venue's limitations. "It's such a good venue right now but it's small," Mr Coughlan said. "We often have to turn people away on Friday and Saturday nights purely due to capacity and it's sad to see." He added that the new space will cater to the existing clientele and provide a dedicated summer alfresco area, which the venue currently lacks.
Mr Coughlan also highlighted the challenges of hosting functions in the limited space, stating that the sky garden will offer much-needed room and a mobile bar specifically for private parties.
Project Timeline and Approval
The expansion is currently in the final stages of approval with the City of Mandurah and the State Government, with hopes of completion by October. "We have a really good working relationship with the council and when we first told them what we wanted to do, they were very supportive," Mr Coughlan said. "Now it's just a matter of going through the paperwork, but we're very excited to get it up and running."
