Taxi Driver Threatened in Early Morning Robbery

Joondalup detectives have launched an investigation into a terrifying taxi theft that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The incident began around 2:05 am when two male passengers allegedly turned on their driver after completing a rideshare-style service to Edgewater Train Station.

According to police reports, one of the men threatened the taxi driver before both suspects stole the Toyota Camry taxi and fled the scene. Fortunately, the driver was not physically injured during the confrontation.

Stolen Vehicle Crashes 35 Minutes Later

The stolen taxi was involved in a single vehicle crash approximately 35 minutes later at 2:40 am. The collision occurred at the intersection of West Coast Drive and Sholl Avenue in North Beach, several suburbs away from the original theft location.

Police have confirmed that one male is currently assisting with their inquiries into both the theft and subsequent crash. The investigation remains active as detectives work to piece together the events leading to the crash.

Police Appeal for Information

Joondalup detectives are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with witnesses who may have seen the Toyota Camry taxi between the time of the theft and the crash.

Authorities have provided multiple ways for the public to assist with the investigation. Anyone with relevant information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online through official channels.

The quick succession of events from the threatening theft to the crash has raised concerns about public safety during late-night hours in Perth's northern suburbs.
