Woolworths Brings Back Twin-Handle Baskets After Customer Complaints
Woolworths Brings Back Twin-Handle Baskets After Complaints

Woolworths is making a significant change across all its stores after listening to customer complaints about shopping baskets. The supermarket giant will reintroduce the two-handle basket design, replacing the single-handle version that was rolled out in December 2023.

The new baskets will be available in all stores by September, with some locations already featuring the updated design. Woolworths Runaway Bay in Queensland has already brought back the twin-handle baskets, sharing the news on Facebook.

Customer Feedback Drives Change

According to a Woolworths spokesperson, the decision was driven by customer feedback. "In response to customer feedback, we are currently rolling out a new shopping basket with an enhanced ergonomic, twin-handle design," the spokesperson told Yahoo. "The new baskets have been designed with customer comfort and sustainability in mind — with each of the new baskets made from recycled materials, including at least 18 milk bottles."

Woolworths Runaway Bay posted on Facebook: "Customers told us they loved the comfort and convenience of the original two-handle baskets, especially for carrying them easily on the arm, so the improved version is now rolling back into store."

Mixed Reviews from Customers

The single-handle design introduced in December 2023 was poorly received by many customers, who voiced criticism online. The new two-handle design will be slightly different from the previous twin-handles but has been designed with customer input.

Customers who disliked the single-handle design expressed their delight at the announcement. One customer said: "The single handle was the worst designed basket in history. Who in their right mind thought it'd be a good idea? Hurrah to the twin handles. Sanity prevails."

The change is expected to be completed by September, and shoppers can look forward to the improved baskets in their local Woolworths stores.
