Great Southern Mining Commences Deep Drilling at Golden Boulder Gold Discovery
Great Southern Mining has officially launched its inaugural deep diamond drilling campaign at the wholly owned Golden Boulder gold discovery, a key component of the flagship Duketon gold project located in Western Australia. This strategic move represents a significant escalation in the company's exploration efforts as it seeks to uncover the deep-seated source of a gold system that extends over an impressive 3.5-kilometre strike length.
Targeting the Engine Room of Gold Mineralisation
The centrepiece of this new program is a deep diamond hole at the Ogilvies prospect, which is planned to reach depths of up to 700 metres. Notably, this high-impact drilling initiative is being co-funded by the Western Australian Government's Exploration Incentive Scheme, underscoring the regional importance of the target. This marks the first-ever diamond drilling conducted in the area and the initial penetration beyond 155 metres into the primary mineralised zone.
By drilling to such depths, Great Southern aims to test the primary geological structures believed to be the source of multiple shallow gold lines previously identified at the surface. According to Great Southern Mining managing director Matthew Keane, the gold mineralisation intercepted in earlier shallow drilling may merely be the surface expression of a far more substantial gold system lying at depth.
Expanding Exploration Across the Golden Boulder System
A second diamond hole is also planned to target the Main Line mineralisation within the expansive 3.5-kilometre Golden Boulder system. This area has already yielded promising results from previous reverse circulation drilling, including a standout 5-metre hit at 14.57 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 41 metres, featuring 1 metre at an exceptional 70.94 g/t gold.
Other notable historical intersections include a 1-metre section at 34.5 g/t gold within a broader 6-metre interval grading 6.7 g/t gold from 48 metres, and a third hole that struck 5 metres running at 5.1 g/t gold from 25 metres.
Upcoming Drilling Campaigns and Broader Exploration Efforts
The current drilling activities at Duketon are just the beginning, with Great Southern already preparing for a massive follow-up campaign. The company has scheduled 10,000 to 15,000 metres of reverse circulation drilling to commence in late April or May, targeting both the Golden Boulder prospect and the emerging Amy Clarke discovery.
At Amy Clarke, previous air core drilling defined mineralisation over a 4.7-kilometre strike, with standout results including 2 metres at a robust 23.9 g/t gold from only 10 metres, and another hole that bagged 17 metres at 1.4 g/t from 20 metres, featuring 1 metre at 11.2 g/t.
Further strengthening its exploration pipeline, the company has completed an 800-metre diamond hole into the Diorite Hill Layered Intrusive Complex at its East Laverton project. Core logging and sampling are currently underway to assess the potential for platinum group elements and base metals.
Financial Backing and Future Prospects
Bolstered by a fresh A$4.6 million capital raising earlier this month, Great Southern is well-funded and ready to maintain its drilling momentum. The company is clearly accelerating its efforts at Duketon, with large rigs now probing the depths of the massive gold system and ample cash reserves to support ongoing operations.
The next few months are poised to be transformative for Great Southern, as investors and industry observers closely monitor the upcoming assay results from these drilling campaigns.
