Dynamic Metals Completes Intensive Diamond Drilling at WA Gold Project
Dynamic Metals has successfully concluded a comprehensive four-hole, 1400-metre diamond drilling campaign at its Cognac West gold prospect, located in the heart of Western Australia's renowned Goldfields region. This targeted program aims to unlock the full potential of an emerging gold-copper system, with results that could significantly impact the project's scale and value.
Strategic Drilling Targets High-Priority Zones
The drilling focused on two key anomalies, Anomaly A and Anomaly B, which were identified through previous reverse circulation drilling and historical exploration efforts dating back to the 1970s. By probing extensions of mineralisation associated with the Republican Thrust and secondary splays, the company sought to assess the lateral continuity and depth of high-grade gold shoots.
Previous reverse circulation drilling in 2025 yielded promising results, including intercepts of 8 metres at 2.78 grams per tonne gold and 4 metres at 5.04 grams per tonne gold. Broader mineralised zones, such as 44 metres at 0.33 grams per tonne and 24 metres at 0.33 grams per tonne, further highlighted the prospect's potential. Additionally, earlier assays indicated the presence of copper, suggesting a polymetallic system that could enhance the project's economic viability.
Geological Insights and Future Prospects
The diamond drilling program was designed not only to test depth extensions but also to provide critical geological data. According to Dynamic Metals managing director Karen Wellman, this intelligence will refine targeting strategies and guide future exploration activities. Cognac West is characterised by a structurally complex environment with felsic intrusions intersecting shear zones, creating ideal conditions for gold deposition.
The oriented core samples obtained from the drilling are expected to offer unprecedented insights into structural geometry, vein orientation, and alteration styles. This information will help identify the richest mineralised zones and optimise subsequent exploration efforts.
Context Within a Prolific Gold Region
The Widgiemooltha project, which includes the Cognac West prospect, is situated in one of Western Australia's most prolific gold belts, flanked by established producers and multi-million-ounce deposits. This region has been a hotspot for exploration since the late 19th century, with recent activities bolstered by strong gold anomalies, high-grade rock chip samples, and government co-funding of $175,000.
With the drilling phase now complete, attention turns to the pending assay results. If these confirm the anticipated gold and copper mineralisation at depth, Cognac West could be poised for a significant discovery, potentially reshaping its position on Western Australia's gold map. Dynamic Metals remains optimistic and prepared to advance exploration in this exciting area.
