Woodberry Man Charged After Police Chase on Unregistered Bike

A 20-year-old man from Woodberry has been charged following a police pursuit involving an unregistered motorbike in the Newcastle region. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when officers from the Newcastle City Police District attempted to stop the rider on Industrial Drive in Mayfield.

Details of the Incident

Police allege that the rider failed to stop when directed and fled the scene, leading officers on a brief chase. The pursuit ended safely a short time later when the motorbike was located abandoned on a nearby street. The rider was apprehended after a short foot chase.

The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, drive motor vehicle while disqualified, and use unregistered registrable vehicle on road. He was also issued a traffic infringement notice for not wearing a helmet.

Court Appearance

The man was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, 15 June 2023. Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
