Firefighters have successfully contained a blaze that threatened a home in Wallsend on Thursday afternoon, after a car caught fire under a carport.
Incident Details
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) received an emergency call just before 1pm on Thursday, May 7, reporting a vehicle fire on Boscawen Street in Wallsend. Upon arrival, crews discovered a car fully alight beneath a carport, with flames already beginning to spread to an adjacent garage.
Four fire trucks from Wallsend station responded to the scene. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames and prevent them from reaching the main residence. However, the top of the carport sustained some singe damage.
Residents Safe
At the time of the fire, residents were inside the home but had self-evacuated before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported, and NSW Ambulance confirmed they were not required at the scene.
Cause Under Investigation
The cause of the car fire remains unknown at this stage. A spokesperson for NSW Police stated that the vehicle had been driven recently and was parked at the home before it ignited. FRNSW is continuing to investigate the incident.
Fire crews remained on site until approximately 2pm, ensuring the area was safe before departing.
