The Princes Motorway to Dapto will be completely free of congestion next week—because the road will be closed. The motorway between Dapto and Wollongong is typically heavily congested as more residents move into the southern suburbs. However, for five nights starting Sunday, May 10, no cars will travel on the motorway between Figtree and Dapto.
Closure Details
The road will close from 8pm to 4am each night to allow for essential maintenance work, including road and safety barrier repairs and vegetation clearing. During these hours, light vehicles will be diverted via the Princes Highway.
A heavy vehicle detour will be in place via Masters Road, Springhill Road, Five Islands Road, King Street, Windang Road, and Lake Entrance Road. Unless otherwise specified, operators of Class 1, 2, and 3 vehicles travelling under a notice must consult their relevant enforceable network map for a suitable approved alternative route.
Mount Ousley Road Closures
Additionally, a 700-metre section of Mount Ousley Road between Gaynor Avenue and the motorway is scheduled to close later this month. This stretch will close from midnight on Friday, May 8, and reopen at 4am on Monday, May 11. The same closure will also be in place from May 22 to 25.
Detours will be in place via Princes Highway, Memorial Drive, and University Avenue. Motorists should allow up to five minutes of additional travel time. Local access to Mount Ousley Road between the Princes Highway and Gaynor Avenue will be maintained over the weekends of the closures.
Considerations for High Vehicles
Allowances will be made to deal with the low height of the University Avenue overpass. The southbound University Avenue ramp will be temporarily widened to 4.5 metres to allow southbound heavy vehicles taller than 4.6 metres to avoid the underpass. Northbound heavy vehicles taller than 4.9 metres will have to park and wait to be escorted through the work site. Delays of up to two hours should be expected.
