Nissan Australia has issued a nationwide recall for 13,795 T33 X-Trail e-POWER vehicles manufactured between 2022 and 2026 over a software fault that could cause a sudden loss of motive power while driving.
Software glitch triggers fail-safe mode
According to the recall notice published by the Department of Infrastructure, the fault lies in the lithium-ion battery controller software. The issue can cause the vehicle to enter a fail-safe mode during driving or regenerative braking, resulting in a loss of power and preventing the battery from charging.
Nissan warned that this failure could increase the risk of a crash, potentially leading to serious injury or death. The recall affects all variants of the T33 X-Trail e-POWER.
Free software update for affected owners
Nissan Australia said it will contact affected owners directly. Owners are urged to book their vehicle into an authorised Nissan dealership for a free software update. The update is expected to take approximately 30 minutes.
Owners can also check whether their vehicle is affected by entering its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the Nissan Australia website or by contacting their preferred authorised Nissan dealer.
What owners should do
Nissan advises that if a warning light appears or the vehicle loses power, drivers should safely pull over and contact Nissan Roadside Assistance. The company has not reported any accidents or injuries related to the fault in Australia.
