Second Electrocution in Two Days

This incident comes just one day after a fatal workplace electrocution in Melbourne, where a 55-year-old worker died when his scissor lift struck power lines. WorkSafe Victoria is also probing that accident.

Workplace safety remains a pressing concern in Australia, particularly in Queensland. According to SafeWork's latest data, published in October 2024, Queensland recorded the highest number of workplace incident deaths across the country.

Workplace Fatality Statistics

In 2024, a total of 188 workers died in workplace incidents across Australia. Queensland accounted for 53 of these deaths, followed by New South Wales with 48. Men represented the vast majority of victims, comprising 96 percent of total fatalities.

The latest incidents highlight ongoing risks in industrial and agricultural settings, where contact with power lines and electrical equipment remains a leading cause of death and serious injury.
