The Brazilian striker, on loan from Atlético Mineiro, netted twice in the second half and once in stoppage time to turn the match around after Newcastle had taken an early lead.
The Jets struck first through a goal from Thomas Waddingham in the 18th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse. However, Sydney responded with a penalty converted by Gomes in the 68th minute after a handball in the box. Robert Mak then put Sydney ahead in the 73rd minute, finishing a cross from Joe Lolley.
Gomes sealed the win with two late goals, the first in the 91st minute from a rebound and the second in stoppage time. The victory marks Sydney FC's first Australia Cup title since 2017, while Newcastle's hopes of a first trophy in nearly a decade were dashed.
