Jakara Anthony has become the first Australian to win two gold medals in Winter Olympics history, claiming victory in the women's dual moguls at the Milano Cortina Games. The 25-year-old from Barwon Heads delivered a flawless performance in the head-to-head format, beating American Jaelin Kauf in the Big Final.
Anthony's gold medal run included victories over gold medallist Elizabeth Lemley in the semi-finals and Olivia Giaccio in the quarter-finals. Despite challenging conditions with snow dusting the course and flat light, Anthony maintained her composure and executed her runs with precision.
The victory was a redemption story for Anthony, who missed a medal in the moguls competition earlier in the week. As the overwhelmingly best moguls skier on the tour over the past four years, she knew coming away from these Games without a medal would have been a shocking upset.
Australia now has three gold medals at the Milano Cortina Games, with Anthony's win marking the third gold in as many days and the fourth total medal for the country. Anthony's achievement cements her place in Australian sporting history as the nation's first two-time Winter Olympic gold medallist.
