The brother of a Melbourne father who vanished in India has been taken into custody and formally charged with murder following an alleged confession to the crime. Sunil Sharma, a 66-year-old mathematics educator at Diamond Valley College, had traveled to India with the intention of selling two properties to fund his retirement in Australia.
Disappearance and Investigation
His disappearance was immediately treated as suspicious, with relatives indicating that his brother, Sunny Sharma, was the last individual to see him alive. Two weeks after Sunil went missing, authorities in India filed murder charges against Sunny.
Sunny reportedly admitted to killing his brother and, with the assistance of his son, disposing of the body in a river. The pair then fled, but were later apprehended by police. Officials have not yet confirmed whether Sunil's remains have been located.

Sunil's daughter, Surbhi, who made a public appeal for information about her father last week, has released a heartfelt statement.
