A bakery owner in South East Queensland has been compelled to close his business following a violent assault by a group of teenagers. Long Kry, 46, proprietor of Rainbow Bakery in Yarrabilba, Logan, was inside his shop on Saturday, June 6, at approximately 7:40 PM when the incident occurred.
Attack Details
Mr Kry reported that the teenagers began taunting him from outside the bakery. He responded by filming them on his phone and confronting them. Video footage obtained by 7News captures one of the teens hurling a bottle towards the front door. Despite the presence of other locals, the group persisted in their aggression.
“Even with other locals around, they were still brazen enough to attack the shop and attack me,” Mr Kry stated.
Escalation and Assault
The group initially fled the scene after a male employee approached them. However, they returned shortly after and began kicking the front door. One teen charged at the bakery and performed a flying kick, shattering the glass. Mr Kry then exited the building wielding a baseball bat, but another teen threw an object that struck his leg, causing him to fall.
“Another one threw something at me, it hit my leg and I fell to the ground,” he recounted.
Nearby residents rushed to assist the shop owner, who sustained a broken leg and cuts during the attack.
“I was so fearful, I feared everyone at that moment,” Mr Kry said.
Aftermath and Community Response
Mr Kry was transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery on his leg. The bakery has since closed its doors due to property damage. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by locals to support Mr Kry during his recovery.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our community, and it’s hard enough without taking these devastating blows, capable of crippling families doing their best to serve the community,” the fundraiser description read.
Mr Kry expressed uncertainty about the bakery’s future, given his injuries and the damage to the shop. “I can’t work. I can’t make money for our family. There’s a lot of uncertainty now,” he said.
Police Investigation
Authorities are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
