A manhunt is underway in Darwin after a fugitive made a dramatic escape from the Darwin Local Court, with police suspecting he is receiving help to avoid capture.
Courthouse Escape
Brandt Graham, 44, was appearing in court on Friday morning when he vaulted over an eight-foot glass-enclosed dock and fled the courtroom, pursued by security staff. The incident occurred around 9:50 am local time.
According to the Northern Territory Police Force, Graham was in the custody of G4S court security at the time of his escape. CCTV footage from ABC Darwin's office, located across the road from the courthouse, appears to show the wanted man running while wearing a green long-sleeved top and black shorts.
Police Investigation
Police believe Graham may have been sighted about an hour later, around 10:40 am, at Doctors Gully, a popular recreational area near the Darwin waterfront. Authorities have stated that they believe he remains in the Darwin region and is being actively assisted to evade capture.
"We urge the public not to approach him and to contact police immediately via triple-0 if sighted," NT Police said in a statement.
The escape has raised concerns about security protocols at the courthouse, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
