An Adelaide man accused of kicking a dog in a Bunnings car park is now the subject of an arrest warrant after failing to appear in court for the second time.
Dog owner demands accountability
The dog's owners say they've run out of patience with Nathan Bradwell, 48, who has repeatedly avoided facing the allegations. Tyler Wright, the owner of four-year-old staffy Maya, told 7NEWS the accused needs to front up. “He just needs to be a man. Show up, face the consequences, get it over and done with,” she said.
Incident details
Maya was tied up in the back of a ute in a carpark outside Parafield Bunnings on March 1 when she copped two kicks to the head allegedly by Bradwell, with the footage circulated online. Bradwell’s latest failure to appear prompted the court to issue a second arrest warrant — this time with no option for bail, meaning he will go straight into custody.
Bradwell's explanation
In a phone call with Bradwell, he told 7NEWS that he failed to appear in court due to a car breakdown and he had no other way of getting there. In an earlier court appearance, Bradwell claimed he acted in self-defence and that Maya bit him. “I got bitten by the dog when I tried to return a trolley, I never meant to hurt the dog at all,” he told media at his April court date.
Penalties if found guilty
If found guilty, the penalty for mistreating an animal is four years’ jail or a $10,000 fine. Bradwell is expected to return to court at a later date.
