The war in the Middle East has now entered its third month, with a fragile ceasefire hanging by a thread after the United States and Israel launched air strikes against Iran in February. The initial strikes, code-named Operation Epic Fury, sent shockwaves through global sectors including shipping, air travel, and oil, as energy costs rose and business faced disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global trade route.

Trump warns Iran will be 'blown off the face of the Earth'
US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh threat to Iranian officials following an attack on ships in the Strait of Hormuz. In an interview with Fox News, Trump said Iran would be “blown off the face of the Earth” if it were to continue launching strikes on the US Navy and commercial vessels. This comes on the first day of the US Navy escorting ships through the strait under “Operation Freedom,” which Iran says is a breach of a ceasefire agreement.

Iran and US trade fire in Strait of Hormuz
An already shaky ceasefire deal is on the brink of collapse as tensions spike over the Strait of Hormuz. Both Iran and the US have launched fresh strikes on Tuesday morning, the first day of US President Donald Trump's “Operation Freedom.” Trump said the US Navy would be escorting ships through the narrow shipping route, which Iran claims is a breach of the ceasefire deal. In response, Iranian officials claim to have launched “warning” shots at US ships near the strait. US Central Command chief, Admiral Brad Cooper, said six Iranian vessels had been sunk as the sides traded fire.
