President Donald Trump has appointed a close ally to serve as the nation's top intelligence official, just days after Tulsi Gabbard announced her departure from the role.
Pulte's New Role
The US president announced that Bill Pulte, who currently leads the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and is heir to a home construction company fortune, will serve as acting director of national intelligence.
In his position at the FHFA, which oversees regulations for federal housing lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Pulte has publicly made a series of extraordinary allegations against Trump's political opponents and adversaries.
"William has deep experience managing the most sensitive matters in America," Trump stated on his Truth Social platform. The president also confirmed that Pulte will retain his role as director of the FHFA while taking on the new intelligence post.
More details are expected to follow.
