A man from the Lake Macquarie region is set to face court after police allegedly discovered a prohibited Nazi symbol displayed on a boat in a public place.
Police investigation leads to arrest
Officers from the New South Wales Police Force first attended a property on Albert Street in Swansea on December 6. Their visit was in response to reports concerning the alleged display of the illegal symbol on a vessel parked at the location.
Following initial inquiries, detectives executed a search warrant at the same Swansea address on Tuesday, December 16. During the operation, they arrested a 32-year-old man at the premises.
Items seized for further examination
Police confirmed they seized two marine vessels and a number of other items from the scene. These will undergo further forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
The arrested man was taken to Belmont Police Station for processing. There, he was formally charged with three separate offences.
Court appearance after bail refused
The charges laid against the Swansea man include:
- Causing a prohibited Nazi symbol to be displayed in a public place.
- Offensive behaviour.
- Breach of bail.
Police refused the man bail following the charges. He was scheduled to appear before a bail court on Wednesday, December 17 to determine his remand status while awaiting future hearings.
The case highlights the enforcement of laws prohibiting the public display of hate symbols in New South Wales.
