Man Charged in Knifepoint Assault of Sex Worker in Canberra

A 34-year-old man has been charged following the alleged sexual assault of a sex worker at knifepoint in Canberra last month. The incident occurred on March 25 at a unit in the city, where the victim reported that a client sexually assaulted her and stole a sum of cash during her appointment.

On Monday, officers from ACT Police's sexual assault and child abuse team executed a search warrant at a residence in Calwell and arrested the suspect. He has been charged with aggravated robbery and sexual assault in the third degree.

Detective Inspector Callum Hughes, officer in charge of SACAT, urged victims of sexual assault to report incidents when they feel ready. “Police recognise the courage that is required to report your experience of assault and want to reassure victims that we take all matters seriously,” Inspector Hughes said. He added that support services and interpreters are available for those who need them.
