G7 Leaders Meet in France for Ukraine, Middle East Talks

Leaders of Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States are convening in Évian-les-Bains, France, for talks focusing on Ukraine, the Middle East, and broader global challenges. The summit, which began with arrivals last night, officially commenced with morning discussions centered on Ukraine.

Ukraine Takes Center Stage

The G7 leaders are being joined by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as they aim to maintain alignment with US President Donald Trump, amid concerns that he might engage with Russia without consulting European allies. Just as the talks were about to begin, Zelenskyy announced that Ukrainian forces had struck a Moscow oil refinery overnight, describing it as a “response” to recent attacks on Kyiv. “Russia must be forced to end the war against our people,” he stated.

Middle East and Other Topics

The leaders will also address the Middle East situation, including Trump’s declaration of a US-Iran peace deal being “all signed,” as G7 leaders work to resolve loose ends. Additionally, discussions will cover relations with rapidly growing economies. The day includes bilateral meetings and a formal dinner later tonight.
