Telstra Outage Lingers: Regional Trains Suspended, Triple-0 Affected
Telstra Outage: Regional Trains Suspended, Triple-0 Affected

More than 24 hours after Telstra first identified a technical issue involving time-keeping nodes in its data centres, the effects of the outage are still being felt across the country. Regional train services remain suspended, and a secondary problem has emerged with Triple-0 emergency calls.

Regional Train Services Still Suspended

Victoria's entire V/Line regional train network remains affected, causing significant disruption for commuters traveling to Melbourne from Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Gippsland, and Seymour. In New South Wales, buses continue to replace trains on the Southern Highlands Line between Campbelltown, Moss Vale, and Goulburn.

Telstra CFO Provides Update

Telstra Chief Financial Officer Michael Ackman stated on Wednesday morning that 90% of the issues have been resolved. However, he cautioned that it may take time for all devices to reconnect properly. The telco later identified a secondary issue affecting Triple-0 calls.

Impact on Triple-0 Calls

For customers still impacted, Telstra warns that an error message will appear on their device, which will then attempt to connect to an alternative mobile network. Customers are advised to wait up to 90 seconds for this process. If an alternative network cannot be reached, they should use a different phone to make the emergency call.
