The rugby league community is rallying around a member of the Canberra Raiders' golden era after a serious accident.

Former Raider Jason Death in Hospital After Fall

Jason Death, the former Canberra Raiders hooker, suffered a fractured skull and brain bleeding from a serious fall and is currently recovering in hospital. The 54-year-old is facing further surgeries as he begins a long road to recovery.

Community Rallies with Fundraiser

Death's work colleagues have started a GoFundMe page, which has already raised almost $50,000 since it was launched two days ago. The campaign aims to support Death and his family during this difficult time.

Ashlee Green, the organiser of the GoFundMe page, said: "A couple of weeks ago, our dear boss and friend, Jason Death, had a serious fall, resulting in a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain. He's currently in ICU, facing more surgeries and a long road to recovery. It's been hard to ask for help, but the generosity of our community has inspired us. Jason and his family are some of the kindest people around, and now it's our turn to support them. Any donation, big or small, would be greatly appreciated. The Deaths have a long road ahead, and we'd love to support them in any way we can. We don't know his full recovery path yet, but with your help and positive thoughts, we know he'll get through this. Let's rally together for Jason!"

A Career in Rugby League

Death played 57 games for the Raiders during the club's golden era, scoring six tries. He played alongside legends such as Steve Walters, current Raiders coach Ricky Stuart, and Mal Meninga. He went on to play for the North Queensland Cowboys, New Zealand Warriors, and South Sydney Rabbitohs, finishing his career in 2004 after 201 first-grade games.

Born in Young, Death attended Lake Ginninderra College in Canberra. He is also the uncle of Penrith Panthers star Nathan Cleary, who will lead his team against the Raiders at Canberra Stadium on Sunday.
