Rising star chaser Gideon Monelli produced a powerhouse performance to win the final of the Mandurah Derby (488m) at Greyhounds WA Mandurah last Friday.
Race Overview
Gideon Monelli jumped only fairly from box five and landed midfield in the early stages as Tarawi burst out to the lead from box two. Gideon Monelli was in danger of being lost in the shuffle but was able to work his way across to the rail and with some clear running ahead of him, he put on the accelerator.
He pushed forward along the fence to catch Tarawi as they hit the turn and then switched to the outside to whip past the leader. In the home straight, Gideon Monelli burned off his rivals and surged across the finish line to score by six lengths in a very quick 27.23.
Future Prospects
The promising David Hobby-trained racedog has now claimed three of four career starts and will next head to Cannington to contest the Group 2 WA Derby series later this month.
