Tragedy at Sand Drags Event Claims Competitor's Life
A competitor has tragically died after a crash during the Goldfields Sand Drags event held near Kalgoorlie-Boulder on Saturday night. The incident occurred at approximately 9pm at the Sand Drags track located off the Goldfields Highway. The rider sustained critical injuries from the crash and was subsequently transported to the Kalgoorlie Health Campus, where he was declared dead.

The Goldfields Sand Drags Association has publicly expressed its profound sympathies, stating this is an extremely difficult time for everyone involved in the sport and the wider community. In a social media statement, the association said, "Our thoughts remain firmly with Glen’s family, his race team, and all who knew and cared for him." They have pledged their full support and respect as the family navigates their grief.
The association acknowledged the significant impact the tragedy has had on competitors, spectators, volunteers, and officials. They emphasised that the safety, wellbeing, and respect of the racing community are their highest priorities.
Official Investigation and Support
WA Police will prepare a report for the Coroner as part of the standard procedure following a tragic incident like this. Initial reports had incorrectly placed the incident at the Kalgoorlie International Speedway, but police confirmed on Wednesday that it occurred at the nearby Sand Drags track.
The association has committed to handling all matters arising from this event with sensitivity and care. "We are currently working closely with local authorities, our committee, event officials and relevant parties to ensure that all appropriate processes are followed," the association stated in its release.
