Valtteri Bottas Hosts Meat Raffle in Melbourne as F1 Season Kicks Off

Formula 1 veteran Valtteri Bottas has fully embraced his role as an honorary Australian, participating in a classic meat raffle event in Melbourne just days before the start of the new racing season. The 36-year-old driver, who returns to the grid this year after a hiatus since 2024, has joined forces with the sport's newest team, Cadillac, marking an exciting chapter in his career.

Aussie Traditions Meet F1 Glamour

On Wednesday night, Bottas was at the heart of a quintessentially Australian scene, giving away four meat trays at Jim Beam's 'Kentucky Roadhouse' located within St Kilda's revamped Village Belle. This down-to-earth gathering stood in stark contrast to the high-profile, glittering festivities unfolding simultaneously at Albert Park, where the Formula 1 grid was being prepared for the weekend's opener.

Andrew McCormack, commenting on Sunrise, highlighted the unique blend of cultures, noting, "We've claimed him as one of our own, the honorary Aussie. There was a meat tray in St Kilda — and a $500,000 diamond necklace on the grid. So you get the best of both worlds here at Albert Park."

Bottas's Growing Connection to Australia

Bottas's affinity for Australia has been deepening over the years, influenced by his partner, Australian Olympic cyclist Tiffany Cromwell, and extended stays in Adelaide. He arrived in the country more than a week ago, spending time in Adelaide before making his way to Melbourne for the grand prix. Reflecting on his experiences, Bottas shared with 7NEWS, "I feel like every time I come here there's more and more support. I love the Australian lifestyle, the track is fun so all in all it's a great event — and it is a special feeling because it's the first event of the calendar."

He also made a heartfelt appeal to fans, saying, "Please root for me, that will help me a lot. I already feel so welcome so please keep it up."

Honoring Bottas's Iconic Style

In a playful nod to Bottas's signature bleached hair, the Roadhouse has introduced a special cocktail for the grand prix weekend called the 'Golden Mullet'. This drink combines vanilla, lemon, and soda with Jim Beam Pineapple, celebrating the driver's distinctive look and adding a fun, local twist to the festivities.

Cadillac's Debut and Season Goals

As Bottas gears up for his debut with Cadillac, a team built from scratch over the past year, he outlined their primary objective for the season opener. "He said simply completing the race is Cadillac's No.1 goal after being built from the ground up over the past year," emphasizing the team's focus on a solid start. Bottas expressed confidence, stating, "I think we can do it. We're here, set for the season, I think that's already incredible for a new team. I'm just going to give it my best and then see what is the starting point and then we need to make further goals for the future."

This event underscores Bottas's seamless integration into Australian culture, blending the excitement of Formula 1 with local traditions as he prepares to hit the track in Melbourne.
