Mailata Secures Second Major Trophy with Dawesville Cup Win
The Mandurah Greyhound Racing Club witnessed a thrilling display of power and determination last Friday as the talented Mailata claimed victory in the prestigious Dawesville Cup final (488m). Trained by Jamie Marsh, the white-and-black chaser showcased his class by running down the leader in the home straight to secure the trophy.
A Tactical Race and a Powerful Finish
Jumping from the outside box eight, Mailata showed early speed to cross the field and settle into a promising position. The early pace was set by Miss Tennessee, who managed to carve out a lead of approximately three lengths. However, Mailata refused to be shaken off, and the pair quickly separated themselves from the rest of the contenders.
As the race progressed, Mailata patiently closed the gap. Turning for home, he made his decisive move. Despite drifting wide on the final corner, he carried superior momentum into the straight. In a powerful surge, Mailata swept past Miss Tennessee to win by a length.
The winning time was recorded at 27.42 seconds. This victory marks Mailata's second major trophy race success, following his win in the WA Derby back in May.
Building an Impressive Career Record
This latest triumph further cements Mailata's status as a rising star in Western Australian greyhound racing. The Dawesville Cup win improves his outstanding career statistics to 10 wins from just 24 starts. His prize money earnings now exceed $115,000, a significant sum that reflects his consistency and talent.
Under the guidance of trainer Jamie Marsh, Mailata has developed into a formidable competitor in feature races. His ability to win from various positions and his strong finishing speed make him a greyhound to watch in future events on the Mandurah circuit and beyond.
