Historic Golden Easter Egg Win at Wentworth Park Farewell

Off The Chart's Record-Breaking Golden Easter Egg Triumph

The Wheeler Kennels Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park concluded with a spectacular performance last Saturday night, April 11, as Victorian greyhound Off The Chart secured a historic victory. If this year's event proves to be the final edition at the iconic venue, it served as a fitting farewell to a cherished metropolitan racing institution.

Potential Final Chapter at Wentworth Park

With the lease on Wentworth Park set to expire in September next year, speculation suggests greyhound racing may depart the venue earlier than anticipated. This development potentially marks the last Golden Easter Egg held at a location that has hosted the sport for numerous decades, adding significant emotional weight to the occasion.

For many long-time attendees and enthusiasts, Off The Chart's dominant win represented one of the most impressive performances witnessed in the event's history. The greyhound, trained by Peter Presutto, led from start to finish, clocking an extraordinary time of 29.12 seconds.

Unprecedented Achievement and Emotional Response

This remarkable time stands as the fastest ever recorded in the Golden Easter Egg, setting a new benchmark for the competition. Presutto, who made five consecutive 10-hour round trips from Victoria to New South Wales with his wife Nat over successive Saturdays, expressed overwhelming joy and pride following the victory.

"I don't know what to say. I can't put in the words right now," Presutto stated. "I just feel so proud of what we've achieved. What he's achieved as a dog. Look, that's the greatest win I've ever had. My dogs seem to love it here at Wentworth Park."

He further reflected on the venue's unique atmosphere, noting, "I don't know why it is, and I love it here. I just love the theatre of the place. It's going to be a shame to see it go."

Personal Significance and Family Dedication

The victory held profound personal meaning for Presutto, who acknowledged the sacrifices made by his family throughout his training career. "What this win means to us is, I don't know, I can't put into the words," he explained. "I guess it means all the hard work that we've done over the years and all the hard work my wife's done with the kids, bringing the kids up and me sometimes not being really there for them all the time, and now we can sort of put it back into them and we can help them out a bit as well."
