Green's Successful Return to Bowling
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has made a highly encouraging return to the bowling crease, delivering a spell full of pace and energy for Western Australia in their Sheffield Shield clash against Queensland at the WACA.
In a crucial tune-up ahead of the first Ashes Test next week in Perth, Green was tasked with bowling 15-20 overs. Sporting a slightly adjusted action, he immediately found his rhythm, impressing Australia's selectors and coaching staff.
A Wicket and Impressive Pace
Green's opening spell was both threatening and productive. He claimed the wicket of Queensland opener Angus Lovell (11) with a superb delivery that angled in before moving off the seam just enough to take a thin edge.
The 26-year-old generated considerable pace, with his energy at the point of delivery looking particularly strong. His first ball to Bulls skipper and Australian teammate Marnus Labuschagne was a dramatic near-waist high full toss that knocked the batsman off his feet, with Green quick to apologise.
Context and Broader Match Details
This match marks only the second time Green has bowled since back surgery last year, with side soreness having previously prevented him from bowling during the recent ODI series against India. His timely return is a major boost for the Australian Test setup.
Meanwhile, Beau Webster staked his own claim for a Test spot, taking 5-50 for Tasmania against South Australia in Hobart. Overlooked Test squad member Matt Renshaw also sent a reminder to selectors, reaching an unbeaten 48 by lunch to guide Queensland to 1-77.
Former Australian seamer Wayne Clark was impressed with Green's spell, noting, "He did look good. That first few deliveries it didn't take long for him to get into the rhythm and pace." Clark added that Green just needs to refine his lengths and rediscover his ability to swing the ball.
The session also saw Labuschagne survive a strong caught behind appeal off Brody Crouch when on seven, with wicketkeeper Josh Inglis convinced he had found an edge.
