Cummins Leads Sunrisers as Connolly Hits Maiden IPL Ton

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins expressed delight at the performance of Australian players after his side secured a 33-run victory over Punjab Kings in Hyderabad. Cummins, who won the man-of-the-match award, took two key wickets, grabbed two challenging catches, and made astute captaincy decisions.

Sunrisers Post Formidable Total

After being put into bat, Sunrisers amassed 4-235, powered by Travis Head's 38 off 19 balls and Abhishek Sharma's 35 off 13. Punjab Kings' fielding woes continued as they dropped four chances, including catches and a stumping. Cooper Connolly dropped Ishan Kishan on 9, and Heinrich Klaasen was also put down early. Kishan went on to score 55 off 32, while Klaasen smashed 69 off 43.

Ponting Frustrated with Dropped Catches

Punjab Kings coach Ricky Ponting, during a TV interview, expressed frustration over his team's catching. "It's been a bit of a virus for us - we've put a lot of catches down this season. We can't afford to go dropping catches like that," he said. As he spoke, another drop occurred, prompting him to joke, "I think I should go. This isn't going very well."

Cummins Leads with Ball and in Field

Cummins set the tone by bouncing out Priyansh Arya in his first over and later held two difficult catches under lights as Punjab slumped to 3-23. Marcus Stoinis fell for 28 off 14, and Cummins returned to dismiss Suryansh Shedge, extinguishing any fightback threat.

Connolly's Lone Resistance

Cooper Connolly played a remarkable innings, hitting eight sixes and seven fours to become Australia's 12th IPL centurion. He reached his maiden hundred off 57 balls, finishing unbeaten on 107 as Punjab managed 7-202. Kings captain Shreyas Iyer praised Connolly, saying, "His mindset is top-notch, the character he brings to the field, all players can learn from him."

Cummins Earns Praise

After the match, Cummins was seen consoling Connolly, earning admiration from fans and experts. Indian cricket great Ravi Ashwin commented, "Sunrisers Hyderabad under Pat Cummins is a completely different team. They're the dark horse, in fact, the only side I feel can stop Royal Challengers Bengaluru."
