Perth CBD Road Closures for HBF Run for a Reason

Major roads in Perth’s CBD will be closed this weekend as runners take over the city for the 2026 HBF Run for a Reason on Sunday, May 24. The annual running festival will see thousands of participants traversing the city streets, prompting significant traffic disruptions and road closures.

Road Closures and Restrictions

Sections of several key roads, including Kwinana Freeway, Adelaide Terrace, Hay Street, Murray Street, St Georges Terrace, and Riverside Drive, will be closed from 4am on Sunday morning. William Street will be closed from 11pm on Saturday evening. The closures will also affect parts of Orrong Road, Victoria Park Drive, and Roger McKay Drive to the east, as well as Hackett Drive at the University of Western Australia.

Parking restrictions will be in place along the running courses, with tow-away zones enforced. Motorists travelling south on the Freeway from north of the river will need to detour via Graham Farmer Freeway onto Canning Highway, then reconnect to Kwinana Freeway at Canning Bridge.

Some sections of St Georges Terrace and Adelaide Terrace westbound, Riverside Drive, and Wellington Street will remain open to traffic but with detours in place.

Travel Advice

Event organisers urge anyone heading to the city over the weekend to plan their trip in advance. Participants and volunteers are reminded they receive free public transport on event day until 3pm.

All road closures are expected to be lifted by approximately 1pm on Sunday afternoon. However, organisers have warned there will be some noise from the start line and event infrastructure construction, beginning from 11pm on Saturday evening on William Street and the corners of Hay and Murray streets.

This year’s HBF Run for a Reason promises to be a vibrant community event, but attendees and commuters are advised to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes.
