Fremantle's Josh Treacy Unveils Secret to Career-Best Marking Display
Fremantle Dockers spearhead Josh Treacy has disclosed the unconventional training technique that propelled him to a personal-best marking performance during the team's commanding 60-point victory over Richmond. The match took place at a rain-soaked Optus Stadium on Saturday, where Treacy's aerial dominance was a key factor in Fremantle's success.
Dominant Aerial Performance in Soggy Conditions
Despite the challenging wet weather, Treacy proved nearly unstoppable in one-on-one contests, securing a career-high 12 marks. This remarkable feat helped Fremantle unleash a devastating run of eight consecutive goals, overwhelming a depleted Richmond side. Although Treacy's accuracy in front of goal was not perfect, with a return of 4.3, his efforts contributed to the Dockers equalling their club record for behinds at 25.
The "Soapy Buckets" Training Method Revealed
In a post-game interview with Fox Footy, Treacy attributed his sticky hands to a unique preparation routine involving "soapy buckets." He emphasized the dedication behind this method, stating, "I put a lot of time and effort into that, it's something I do a lot of reps of. We had the soapy buckets of water out during the week, and I made sure I got a lot of reps in catching that and preparing for today." This focused training allowed him to excel even in slippery conditions.
Forward Line Synergy and Future Potential
Treacy was not the only Fremantle forward to benefit from the team's significant 41 to 26 clearance advantage. Teammates Jye Amiss and Pat Voss also made their mark, combining for three goals. Treacy highlighted the dynamic nature of their forward setup, noting, "I like to get up the ground, Jye and Vossy hold a little bit deeper, and I feel like we're really dynamic and we have our own strengths to bring to the table." He added that this versatility poses a challenge for opposing defenses and signaled ongoing development, saying, "We're not a finished product; we've got a long way to go."
Treacy also expressed pride in Voss, who faced intense scrutiny during the week, remarking, "Vossy really copped it a lot during the week, and we put our arms around him, and I couldn't be prouder of him." This camaraderie underscores the team's cohesive spirit as they aim to build on their impressive start to the season.
