Essendon's Jacob Farrow Secures AFL Rising Star Nomination After Strong Early Season Form
Essendon's emerging talent Jacob Farrow, a product of West Perth, has been awarded the AFL Rising Star nomination for 2026, marking Western Australia's first such honor this season. The half-back defender received the accolade following his standout contributions in the Bombers' initial matches, showcasing his potential on the field.
Impressive Performance in Gather Round Victory
Farrow played a pivotal role in Essendon's first win of the season, a commanding 45-point triumph over Melbourne during Gather Round. In just his third career game, he delivered a stellar performance with 22 disposals at an 82 percent efficiency rate, including 16 kicks and six handballs, while also securing 12 marks. This effort mirrored his previous match against the Western Bulldogs, where he recorded 21 disposals and 12 marks, highlighting his consistency and impact.
Recognition and Club Milestones
This nomination makes Farrow Essendon's first Rising Star nominee since Isaac Kako in Round 17 of last year and the first Western Australian to earn the honor since St. Kilda's Hugh Boxshall in round 22 of 2025. Expressing his surprise and pride, Farrow stated, "It is a huge honour to be named the Rising Star. I've just been focused on playing my role and doing my best, so to get this recognition is special." He added, "I'm loving every minute of being out there with the boys, and the support from the coaches and staff have been unreal since joining the club last year."
Background and Future Aspirations
A late bloomer in his draft year, Farrow's strong showings for Western Australia at the AFL National Championships earned him an under-18 All-Australian selection, propelling him into the first round of the draft. Hailing from Perth's northern suburbs, he has roots in junior clubs such as Joondalup Kinross, Edgewater Woodvale, and Whitford. Looking ahead, Farrow emphasized his commitment to improvement, saying, "There is still a lot I want to work on in my game, but this gives me confidence to keep building and hopefully contribute to more wins for the Bomber fans."
