The West Coast Eagles have launched an investigation into forward Tyler Brockman after he was involved in a violent street brawl that resulted in a person being hospitalised with a serious injury.
Violent altercation in Geraldton
The ugly incident erupted on Saturday night in Geraldton, a coastal city located roughly 400 kilometres north of Perth. In video footage of the confrontation, a shirtless Tyler Brockman, aged 23, can be seen charging towards a man before allegedly throwing a punch. The force of the blow knocked the victim onto the pavement.
The footage then shows the AFL player appearing to bolt towards another individual, who was left clutching their head on the ground. "It’s not me. It’s not me, bro. What did I do?" the person can be heard saying during the altercation.
Club response and history of trouble
Management for the former Hawthorn player told media they believe Brockman may have been acting in self-defence. The West Coast Eagles confirmed they are "aware of an incident" involving the footballer and are providing him with support while they "gather all relevant information."
This is not the first time Brockman has found himself in legal trouble while in Geraldton. In 2024, he was fined $1400 and stood down from football for a month after crashing his car into a pole and fleeing the scene. A magistrate at the time described the circumstances of that incident as "deeply suspicious."
Contract and ongoing probe
The young forward's contract with the West Coast Eagles is secured until the conclusion of the 2026 AFL season. The club's internal investigation is now underway as they determine the full details of the Saturday night brawl and what consequences, if any, will follow for the player.
