Aussie Wildcards Kubler and Polmans Reach Australian Open Doubles Final

Australian wildcards Jason Kubler and Marc Polmans have continued their fairytale run at the Australian Open, securing a spot in the men's doubles final. The pair defeated Luke Johnson and Jan Zielinski 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in just under two hours on Thursday.

Playing together for the first time, Kubler and Polmans showed remarkable chemistry, with Polmans delivering an inspired third set. The crucial break came when leading 4-3, before Kubler served out the match in style. After the win, the duo handed out legionnaires hats to fans, a nod to Polmans' signature headwear.

Kubler praised his partner, saying, 'It's unbelievable. Far out, he carried me today. Without Marc on my side, I don't know if I would have been able to get through that.' He added that he plans to hit the practice court on Friday to work on his game ahead of the final.

Polmans, who had lost four previous semi-finals, expressed his joy at finally reaching a final. 'I'm just soaking it up playing with Jason. My friends and family are here, so it's extra special for me,' he said.

The pair will face sixth seeds Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski in Saturday's final. Kubler, who won the Australian Open doubles title in 2023 with Rinky Hijikata, is also enjoying a successful tournament with his fiancee Maddison Inglis, who reached the fourth round in women's singles. The couple could earn over $1 million in combined prizemoney if Kubler wins the final.
