Stage 2 of the Tour de France presents a 180-kilometer flat route from the starting town to Bergerac, slightly longer than yesterday's 175km stage and featuring more climbing with 1,150 meters of elevation gain compared to 850 meters. The presence of two category-four climbs in the latter half of the stage—the Côte de Domme at 102.6km and the Côte de Buisson-de-Cadouin at 140.4km—may tempt escape artists to launch breakaway attempts.
Intermediate Sprint and Climbs Shape the Day
Green jersey contenders will aim to contest the intermediate sprint at Saint-Cyprien, positioned between the two climbs at 122.8km. However, the stage is expected to be closely controlled by teams such as Alpecin–Premier Tech and Soudal-Quick-Step, setting up a hectic bunch sprint for the finish in Bergerac. Jasper Philipsen and yesterday's winner Tim Merlier lead the peloton's sprinters, with the stage likely culminating in a mass dash to the line.
Expected Fast and Hot Conditions
The stage will be fast and hot, with riders enduring high temperatures while navigating the route on expensive carbon bikes. The neutralised stage start is scheduled for 13:15 CET (12:15 BST). As always, the Tour de France promises intense competition and strategic racing, with the flat terrain favoring the sprinters despite the early climbs.
