Crows' Taylor Walker Suspended for One Game After Rough Conduct Bump
Taylor Walker Suspended for One Game by AFL Tribunal

Adelaide Crows forward Taylor Walker has been suspended for one game following a controversial incident in their thrilling one-point AFL victory over Geelong at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night. The match review panel handed down a rough conduct ban after Walker pushed Geelong defender Connor O'Sullivan into Crows captain Jordan Dawson during a marking contest in the third quarter.

Match Review Findings

The incident was assessed as careless conduct, with medium impact and high contact, leading to a one-match suspension. Walker, who kicked two crucial goals on his return from injury, will now miss Adelaide's upcoming clash against the Western Bulldogs on June 11, unless the club successfully challenges the ban at the AFL Tribunal.

In contrast, Geelong star Tom Stewart was cleared of any wrongdoing for his bump on Adelaide's Callum Ah Chee. The match review determined that Stewart's contact was predominantly to the body and that his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. Ah Chee later exited the game with a hamstring injury, adding to Adelaide's injury concerns.

Injury Update

The Crows are sweating on the fitness of several key players after the physical encounter. Ah Chee (hamstring) and Jordon Butts (calf) were both unable to finish the match. Coach Matthew Nicks provided an update, saying, "It's disappointing that we've lost those guys but also really pleasing that we were able to hang in there and just fight it out towards the end. Ah Chee's a hamstring, Jordon Butts is a calf, but we don't know to what extent. We hope they're minor."

Ah Chee's injury is his fourth hamstring issue since joining the Crows from Brisbane, where he won two premierships. Nicks expressed sympathy for the forward, stating, "It's really tough for him. The first thing he says about it is he doesn't want to let the group down, because that's the sort of person he is. But it's an interesting one because he's had such a long career at a club and every club trains differently ... so we'll just keep looking at whether there's challenges in what we do here. We're really confident we'll get that right and he's going to be super important for the latter part of this year."

In a further blow, teammates Toby Murray and debutant Hugo Hall-Kahan collided heads in the final quarter, temporarily reducing the Crows to one fit player on the bench. However, both players avoided concussion protocols and finished the game. Nicks praised the medical team, saying, "We have complete trust in our medical group about how they do that and we don't take any risk in that space. Player welfare is first and foremost with that. I'm led to believe it's more of just a gash across the nose for Hugo, which just adds a little bit more to his game."

Other Incidents

Geelong forward Jack Martin escaped with a fine for rough conduct against Adelaide's Josh Worrell, while Crows captain Jordan Dawson shook off a sore hip from the Walker-O'Sullivan collision to inspire his side with three goals from 22 disposals.

Match Significance

Adelaide's victory was their first against Geelong after six consecutive defeats, lifting them to sixth place on the ladder with a 7-5 record. The win was also the Crows' third one-point victory of the season and their seventh game decided by a single-figure margin. They now face a crucial test against the Western Bulldogs next week, with Walker's absence looming large.
