Melbourne Demons Rally Around Brody Mihocek After Neck Fracture Surgery
Melbourne Support Brody Mihocek After Neck Fracture

The Melbourne Demons have been working tirelessly to support Brody Mihocek since he was rushed to hospital after suffering a fractured neck during the King's Birthday clash against Collingwood on Monday.

Mihocek has since undergone successful surgery and has been surrounded by teammates in hospital, with the club providing round-the-clock support.

Demons coach Steven King was one of the first club representatives to visit the stricken star after their win over Collingwood concluded. Mihocek's teammates have since been taking turns to be by his side, according to Channel 7's Tom Morris.

"They are essentially working in shifts," Morris said. "Coaches, teammates, assistant coaches, and other staff are going to support Brody Mihocek in hospital just to lend him that helping hand and make sure he's OK, which is good to see."

Morris added: "The good news with Brody Mihocek from a news perspective is that he's walking around, he's in good spirits. The surgery went well. Yes, he has a fractured neck, but it could have been a hell of a lot worse."

Mihocek sustained the injury under an awkward challenge from Pies star Billy Frampton. Although it was entirely accidental, Frampton has been hit with a three-game ban.

A timeline has not been given for Mihocek's return, but in the meantime, Melbourne plans to support him in any way they can.

"You never want to see an incident in our game like what we saw with Brody on Monday," assistant coach Alan Richardson said. "Brody is in the very best of care and was able to undergo surgery last night, which, thankfully, went as planned. Our primary focus right now is supporting Brody, his partner Polly, and their family through his recovery, while ensuring his return to full health."
