Knights Youngster Wil Sullivan Forced into Medical Retirement; Dane Gagai Battling Injury

Newcastle Knights prop Wil Sullivan has been medically retired at just 22 years old due to repeated concussions. The former Queensland under-19s representative suffered five head knocks during the NSW Cup season and another concussion during pre-season training. Specialists warned of serious consequences if he continued playing, leading to the decision.

Sullivan joined the Knights from North Queensland Cowboys early last year and was contracted until the end of 2028. He played 11 NSW Cup games for the club but his career has been cut short on medical advice.

Veteran centre Dane Gagai is playing through a rib injury, reportedly a cracked rib, which has limited his impact. He has been receiving painkilling injections before and during games. Coach Justin Holbrook may rest Gagai for matches against the Dragons and Titans ahead of the bye round to allow recovery.

Back-up hooker Harrison Graham is close to signing a one-year contract extension with the Knights for 2027. The 24-year-old, currently on a development deal, has played six NRL games this season.

Former Knight Owen Craigie is recovering in hospital after a stroke caused by a brain bleed. He attended the Knights' win over South Sydney last weekend and expressed gratitude for the support from fans and former players.

The Knights have fended off interest from rival clubs to retain young forward Kingston Seu Seu, who is finalising a three-year deal until 2029. The club is also hopeful of re-signing winger Benji Thompson and five-eighth Riley Rostron.
