Wests Tigers forward David Klemmer is reportedly on the verge of leaving the NRL club, with a move to Super League side St Helens looking increasingly likely. The former New South Wales State of Origin prop has been a consistent performer for the Tigers in recent years, but appears to have fallen out of favour under new coach Benji Marshall.
Klemmer, 31, was left out of the Tigers' squad for their final pre-season trial against the Parramatta Eels this weekend, following a late withdrawal from the opening trial against Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs last week. The club has not cited injury or a falling out, but the omissions suggest Marshall has lost faith in the veteran forward.
Klemmer is in the final year of his contract with the Tigers, which includes a player option for 2026 if he plays at least 14 games in 2025. However, reports indicate the club attempted to remove that option but could not reach an agreement with Klemmer. The Tigers are now willing to let him go as soon as he secures a deal elsewhere.
With the Tigers boasting strong forward stocks, including Terrell May, Fonua Pole, and new recruit Royce Hunt, Klemmer's departure appears imminent. St Helens, the reigning Super League champions, are poised to secure his signature, marking a significant switch for the experienced prop.
