Nash Peattie, aged 11, made a winning debut for Waratah in the A-grade Pennants on Sunday, becoming the youngest player in the club's 125-year history to compete at that level. Playing off a handicap of 1.6, he defeated Jim Marshall 4 and 2 in match play to help Waratah secure a 4.5-3.5 victory over Nelson Bay.
Nash's brother, Eli, 14, who plays off a two handicap, also recorded a win in his second pennants match, beating Will Semmens 2 and 1. The brothers flew to Adelaide on Monday to watch the LIV tournament at The Grange Golf Club, where they hope to one day compete alongside their idols.
Both boys are part of the Hunter Academy of Sport and are considered among the region's top young golf prospects. Their father, Mitch, a former professional and current PGA member, noted that Nash is strong for his age and confident from 100 metres in, while both brothers hit the ball 230 to 240 metres off the tee.
Nash, a year 6 student at Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College, was a member of the NSW Primary Schools side that won gold at the national championship in Ballarat last year. He also received the Jack Newton Junior Golf under-12 player of the year award.
Mitch Peattie established a junior program at Waratah Golf Club in 2019, which has since grown into a thriving nursery of young players. The brothers train in a purpose-built shed with a simulator and gym at home. This week, they will watch their idols at the LIV tournament, and Nash has earned a scholarship with Callaway through its next generation program.
