France booked their place in the World Cup semi-finals with a commanding 2-0 victory over Morocco at Boston Stadium on Thursday. Kylian Mbappe scored one goal and set up another, while Ousmane Dembélé also found the net, making a strong statement as tournament favorites.
Mbappe and Dembélé Shine
Mbappe's goal in the 60th minute was the 20th of his World Cup career, moving him one behind Argentina captain Lionel Messi. Dembélé added his fifth goal of the tournament in the 66th minute. France missed a first-half penalty kick but still controlled the match.
Road to the Final
France will face either Spain or Belgium in the semi-finals in Dallas on Tuesday. This is their third consecutive World Cup semi-final, a feat achieved only by Germany and Brazil before them. They remain on track to become the third nation to play in three consecutive World Cup finals.
Dominance Over Morocco
France beat Morocco by the same scoreline in the 2022 semi-finals in Qatar, when Morocco became the first African team to reach that stage. Fans and commentators alike were impressed by France's performance.
Popular social media account Outbreezy said: “No one is beating France from here… too much class, they’re unstoppable. I propose that the other remaining World Cup countries combine to form a ‘rest of the world’ team. That’s the only way France aren’t winning it.”
SBS commentators called it an “easy” 2-0 victory, adding that France “did it in a canter.” They noted: “Three World Cup semi-finals in a row, only Germany and Brazil have done that before. We talk about golden generations, well this is one helluva French team.”
With the win, France remain the raging tournament favorites, and Mbappe is now joint leader of the Golden Boot race alongside Messi.
