Julián Alvarez has told Atlético Madrid he wants to leave the club to “fulfil his dream” amid reported interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. The 26-year-old Argentina forward made the announcement after scoring in Argentina’s 3-0 World Cup Group J win over Austria at Dallas Stadium.
Alvarez Confirms Desire to Leave
“I spoke with people at the club, with those I had to speak with, and the best thing for everyone is a transfer and I want to fulfil my dream,” Alvarez said. “It’s not the time to talk about this, but I also can’t hide it. I try to be an honest person.” The striker, who joined Atlético from Manchester City in 2024 for a deal worth up to €95m (£81.5m), said his future remains undecided. “It’s not known when it will be resolved,” he told reporters.
Interest from Europe’s Elite
Spanish and Argentinian media have reported interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG. Weeks earlier, Atlético rejected a €150m (£129.4m) offer from Real Madrid for Alvarez, according to media reports. The forward has been recovering from an ankle injury and has come off the bench in both of Argentina’s matches at the World Cup. Reuters has contacted Atlético for comment.
