The Perth Scorchers have announced the signing of paceman Brody Couch as the 18th and final member of their squad for the upcoming Big Bash League season. Couch replaces Lance Morris, who will undergo back surgery.
Couch, who was born in the USA but raised in country Victoria, has previously played for the Melbourne Stars in three BBL seasons. He earned a Western Australia contract last season and famously took the state's first-ever Sheffield Shield hat-trick exactly one year ago.
The 25-year-old said he plans to lean on his existing relationships with WA teammates to adapt to the Optus Stadium wicket. “It probably suits me a little bit more with my speed, a little bit more pace and bounce which is always fun and exciting,” Couch said.
Couch also praised the welcoming environment within the WA bowling unit. “Collectively, as a fast-bowling unit, we just work really well together and communication is one of our main goals,” he said. He noted that older players are keen to help younger players succeed.
Couch has also gained experience playing Major League Cricket with the San Francisco Unicorns. He described the experience as valuable, saying, “There’s great coaches over there, great experiences in a different country, playing cricket where I never thought I would.”
