Myers Wins Bowerman Mile in Australian Record

Australian Cameron Myers has laid down another marker in his rise to middle-distance stardom, taking out the prestigious Bowerman Mile at the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday (Sunday AEST). The 20-year-old moved to the front on the penultimate lap and kicked at the final turn to triumph in 3:46.06 — a new Australian record — and well clear of some serious competition.

Myers Dominates Strong Field

Americans Yared Nuguse and Ethan Strand rounded out the podium, with countryman Hobbs Kessler in fourth. Kenya’s Timothy Cheruiyot finished fifth ahead of Olympic 1500m champion Cole Hocker. But this day belonged to Myers, who is building and building ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

“I’ve clocked his last lap in 55.06 — he’s destroyed that field,” the commentator said. “Nuguse left it too late, when he moved round the outside and tried to attack Cam Myers had gone. (Myers had) kicked it hard, visibly accelerated with about 100m to go, there’s more in the tank for this young fella. He’s strong, he’s fast and he’s just 20 — watch this fella.”

National Record Streak Continues

Myers’ new national record in the mile comes a week after he lowered the 1500m mark in Paris. The young Australian has been in exceptional form, signaling his potential as a future star in middle-distance running.

Women’s Mile: Hull Fifth

In the women’s mile, Jessica Hull didn’t have the legs to challenge for the win in her second race back in the build-up to the Commonwealth Games. The Australian held near the front of the pack before the field spread in the last 100m, with Nikki Hiltz jumping to the front to snare victory in 4:17.19 — the world’s best time this year — from Dorcus Ewoi, superstar Faith Kipyegon and Klaudia Kazimierska. Hull crossed in 4:18.03 to finish fifth.
