Hundreds of young track and field athletes gathered at Myimbarr Community Park over the weekend for the annual Lake Illawarra Athletics summer carnival, now renamed the Howard McGarry Memorial Summer Carnival.
The event, held on the second week of January for more than 30 years, has become one of New South Wales' largest gala days. Athletes aged three to 20 competed, with open and masters divisions also on offer.
This year, the club honored life member Howard McGarry, who has been part of the community for 50 years, by naming the carnival after him. Results for over 1,800 events will be available online via the Lake Illawarra Athletics website.
